چکیده

The importance of vitamin Bs in water metabolism has been studied extensively. Stebbins (1) demonstrated an impaired water metabolism in animals deprived of vitamin Be. Lepkovsky and colleagues (2) suggested that derangement of water metabolism may be involved in the occurrence of fits in vitamin B&-deficient rats. Guggenheim (3) observed that rats in a state of vitamin Be deficiency show a delayed diuretic response to a water load test. Since water balance and electrolyte concentrations bear a close relationship, it was of interest to study the effect of dietary deprivation of vitamin Be on electrolyte concentration. This is particularly so in view of the recent report of Olsen and Martindale (4) demonstrating that vitamin Be-deficient animals were in a state of hypertension. The studies to be presented in this report deal with the influence of dietary vitamin Be restriction on Na and K concentrations of serum and tissues in rats maintained on a high or low fat diet.

Vitamin B6 modulates expression of albumin gene by inactivating tissue-specific DNA-binding protein in rat liver.

The level of albumin mRNA in the liver of vitamin B6-deficient rats was found to be 7-fold higher than that of control rats. Since the transcriptional activity of the albumin gene, as measured by a nuclear run-on assay, was increased 5-fold in vitamin B6 deficiency, the higher concentration of albumin mRNA in the liver of vitamin-deficient rats could be attributed to the enhanced rate of transc...

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate modulates expression of cytosolic aspartate aminotransferase gene by inactivation of glucocorticoid receptor.

The level of mRNA for cytosolic aspartate aminotransferase (cAST) in the liver of vitamin B6-deficient rats was found to be 7-fold higher than that of the control rats. The administration of hydrocortisone to adrenalectomized vitamin B6-deficient rats induced expression of hepatic cAST mRNA and the induction was suppressed by the simultaneous administration of pyridoxine. Since the 5' regulator...

Plasma homocysteine and liver tissue S-adenosylmethionine, S-adenosylhomocysteine status in vitamin B6-deficient rats.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate plasma homocysteine (Hcy), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) levels, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities and liver tissue S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) levels in control and vitamin B6-deficient rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-two male rats with a weight of 65-75 ...

Effect of vitamin B6 deficiency on antioxidative status in rats with exercise-induced oxidative stress

This study investigated the effect of vitamin B(6) deficiency on antioxidant enzyme activities and lipid profile in rats with exercise-induced oxidative stress. Forty eight rats were fed either a vitamin B(6) deficient diet (B6-) or a control diet (control) for 4 weeks and then subdivided into 3 groups: pre-exercise (PreE); post-exercise (PostE); recess after exercise (recessE). Compared to tho...
